BBC Northern Ireland introduces A Century of Stories supported by Belfast City Council at Waterfront Hall, Belfast on 24 September 2024!
Join us for a Musical Gala event marking one hundred years of the BBC in Northern Ireland, featuring The Ulster Orchestra and guests supported by Belfast City Council.
BBC Northern Ireland began broadcasting on 15 September 1924.
Since then stories have been documented through drama, news, entertainment and sport, bringing us familiar voices and faces who became our on-air companions.
On this special night, household names and artists from across the decades will come together to celebrate, reflect and recall some of the many memorable highlights over the last 100 years of broadcasting.
On 8 November 2021, Belfast became a UNESCO City of Music, celebrating the city’s rich musical heritage and recognising the importance of music to its future. In conjunction with BBC Rewind, there’s an opportunity to see and hear the premier of four specially commissioned audio-visual works from Eoin O’Callaghan (composer of BBC’s Blue Lights), singer Siobhan Brown (Manuka Hunney) The Darkling Air, and guitarist Rory Friers (And So I Watch You From Afar).
The event is also part of Belfast 2024, an ambitious cultural celebration of creative local projects, events and city initiatives taking place throughout 2024.
The programme will be recorded for broadcast on BBC television and BBC Radio Ulster at a later date.
Please note: As not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, more tickets are sent out than there are places. This means that admission is on a first come first served basis and is not guaranteed. Should you be turned away there will be no compensation for any costs incurred in getting to the venue.
