Get in the Christmas spirit and join the Ulster Orchestra and the Belfast Philharmonic Choir at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on 10 December 2022 for Handel's Messiah.
This annual festive highlight returns with the magic of the full Belfast Philharmonic Choir along with guest soloists. One of the most popular oratorios ever written, this is a special night not to be missed.
Handel’s telling of the life, death and resurrection of Christ is a tour de force of writing for orchestra and singers. Divided into three parts, Part One begins with the words of the prophet Isaiah, foretelling the birth of the saviour of the world, before moving on to the story of Jesus’s birth. Part Two turns darker as it tackles Jesus’s rejection and death, but as the resurrection is revealed the mood soars and this section finishes with the jubilant celebration of that best-loved chorus, Hallelujah! Part Three declares the promise of eternal life and the oratorio finishes in a majestic hymn of praise, Worthy is the Lamb.
Handel brought all his skill as an opera composer to bear on Messiah and its storytelling is dramatic, but never loses sincerity and as a result, it never loses its power to move, to console and to inspire.
