Date

24th December 2025

The World Snooker Tour have confirmed that the Northern Ireland Open will remain at the Waterfront Hall after agreeing an extension until 2029.

Having hosted the tournament since 2017, which was won by Jack Lisowski in its most recent edition in October when he defeated Judd Trump 9-8 in front of a 1,435-strong crowd, the Waterfront will continue to play host for the next four years.

Home favourite Mark Allen is a two-time winner of the competition, clinching back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, while Trump is a four-time winner of the Alex Higgins Trophy.

When Lisowski won his maiden title, the attendance that flocked to watch his Final duel with Trump was only bettered by the Masters among UK events, and he praised the hospitality he was treated to as he looks ahead to defending his title in 2026.

“The people are so friendly in Belfast, I get a lot of support,” said Lisowski.

“We go to a lot of places but the Waterfront Hall is definitely one of the best venues on the tour and everyone is always excited to play in the event.”

Over 11,000 people attended the Northern Ireland Open in total in 2025 in addition to the many more watching via online mediums.

ICC Belfast Chief Executive Rob McConnell believes the agreement is an endorsement of what the fans bring to the event, adding:

“Belfast has proved time and again that it delivers an atmosphere unlike anywhere else, and we’re delighted that the World Snooker Tour has chosen to deepen its roots in the city.

“Extending the Northern Ireland Open at the Waterfront Hall through to 2029 is a significant endorsement of our venue, our fans and Belfast’s ambition to be a leading home for major international events.

“This long-term commitment gives us the opportunity to further enhance the fan experience and strengthen the tournament’s legacy through meaningful community initiatives that reflect the core values of our organisation.

“After another outstanding year, we are proud to secure this partnership for the years ahead and excited for what it will bring to the city.”

Operations Director of the World Snooker Tour Nicola Moloney said: “The Northern Ireland Open has become one of the standout tournaments on the WST calendar, and the Waterfront Hall plays a central part in that success.

“The attention to detail in production, the welcome, and the energy from the Belfast crowd are second to none. We’re delighted to confirm our commitment to the venue through to 2029 and we look forward to more memorable years ahead.”
